Considering

Things that I have had for a long time are very dear to me, including this journal of mine. But I find it very difficult to update two blogs. I'm still considering about quitting LJ altogether in favour of Blogger... Am still thinking.

Tada

Okay so approximately ten minutes ago I finally finished revamping Durian Pop and has given it a simple layout. I know that the hand-drawn durian looks horrible, but it'll do. Hm. Tomorrow is dad's birthday and here I am typing away while doing research for my younger sister's Japanese Occupation project. These are the times when I feel like I have to be a very good older sister and help my younger siblings out. But, these are the times when I feel like total crap for not doing anything for my dad's birthday. Oh kick myself I would if I have the ability. I dont have the funds to buy him anything since I'm paying for my university fees while he doesnt have the time for even a small party. Honestly, I dont get to see my dad often since I was young. It has become habitual for us not to feel anything if he forgets and if we forget. But...I'd like to do something good for him.

Hahaha. Its been a week since the start of the holidays and yeah, I've been a complete bum. Need to be more productive hm? That means early mornings, more exercise, writing, and reading. My aunt lent me a mountain of books a few months ago and I bought a few myself the past few weeks so guess this is a good excuse to start the reading thing going. So Kenzaburo Oe's "A Personal Matter" has been finished just right before the exams so its time to start on Book Two: Tash Aw's "The Harmony Silk Factory". Lets see how it goes. Better not get distracted by ff x-2 again. Since the international version of FF xii isnt out yet, better be playing some of the old games too. Argh. Choices and choices. Reminds me to stamp 'BOOKS FIRST' on my forehead.

On the brighter side of things, today's Maulidurrasul! (*,*)

Just finished the last English Lit 1 class with a presentation and discussion on Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock and I'm quite surprised that its the end of the semester again. With pending readings, reviews, and a drama presentation next Monday, I'm aiming to end this semester with a bang and I hope that my crappy command of Arabic won't get in the way. Its really disappointing that I am still technically on elementary level. Sheesh. I need a tutor.

Going North and KLpac

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

My friend and I went to KLpac yesterday to get tickets for Syed Alwi's play Going North for our theatre review. The act of buying tickets is easy, but to find KLpac is a more complex matter. Since it is relatively new, KLpac is a place not many people know about, even to the people working near within the area it is situated in. To simply put it, we got lost, but not without putting up an effort. We asked pedestrians and security guards, and taxi drivers..whoever we encountered. We got a bunch of "i don't know"s and "what is KLpac?"s but not the answer we were looking for. Going to the police station was the last option for us because of its distance, since I was fasting and my friend didn't eat from morning. But thankfully we got our answer there.

My description of KLpac may be a slight case of hyperbole, but I don't care. I think, KLpac is really nice. The surrounding area is green and its park is vast. However, the best thing about the place is the old building that are within the park. My friend cannot contain her excitement since she has this passion for historical sites, and the buildings turn out to be buildings associated to the old railway (which the architects have integrated together with a new structure). In all, it was awesome.

But speaking about the play itself, I'm quite intrigued by the storyline. It is set during the Malayan Emergency in 1949 and tells about a meeting of three strangers. I'll post a review here once I'm done.

First Post of the Year?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
eyes
Its already nearing the end of January and I guess this is my first post for this year. The new year wasn't that eventful with everything much as it was in 2005, everyday life following schedules and patterns. On a brighter note, I seem to be doing pretty well with the classes I registered this semester, except for one teeny weeny problem with the style of educating of one lecturer. Not going to indulge in that. Plus, I'm on mid-sem vacation at the moment, and that means getting lost in a novel or some sort and Kazuo Ishiguro's 'Never Let Me Go' is just the thing for redirection.

Oh god. I need to return to campus tomorrow with as much enthusiasm as I can muster. The only thing I'm looking forward to is the chance to meet my friends again after four or five weeks of vacation. I lost count really but like most people, I do love to wake up at my own sweet choice of time. With practically no internet connection these few weeks, I managed to survive living at home .literally. Not going out that much since I can't drive. I even didn't show up online with Kyo and Iku as planned. Kyo-nee, if you are reading this, I am really sorry (+,+) I'll make it up to you and Iku-nee somehow. Entertaiment finally came last week when my dad bought Kate Bush's new album Aerial, Rakuru's Smile album which I finally got enough courage to buy, and the Resident Evil 4 game that my brother is currently playing. I have no life. Really.

If I could do something absurd and impossible, it would have to be stranggling one of my mass communication group members. We have a presentation on Malaysian Motion Picture and Sound Recording, and we don't have sufficient information to do this. An equation? Head of group + tardyness + lazyness = ?
Promised me he'd send the information to my mailbox, but all I got was air.
Basics. Basics.

The pre-registration exercise didn't go on as planned. My friends and I wanted to apply for the Phonetics and Phonology classes for next semester but I guess the seniors got to it first. But I think the other classes that I signed up for are great. They are;

-English Literature I
-Introduction to Fiqh
-Literary Genres II: Drama
-Halaqah II
-Islamic Literature (reserved)
-Arabic (reserved)

The main concern for next semester is whether I could handle the burden of taking up three literature courses. Its funny but for once in my life, I'm ready to face some bigger challenges. Linguistics courses would have to wait till the second year.

Wish me luck.

My performance on my linguistics quiz today tells me that I need more practice on the phrase structure trees and focus less on semantics. You know you've done really bad when all you could remember are all the fidgetings that you did on your seat. Hm. On a lighter note, the mass communication paper has been postponed till further notice so that gives me more time to revise on the other chapters that I didn't cover.

ok then....

I received a letter from May-chan today. In short, her letter triggered a feeling of nostalgia, remembering the times when all I ever did was glue my eyes to the pc monitor and chat with my friends. I can't even log into MSN Messenger anymore since I don't have the time. Time? You may say that everybody receives twenty-four hours a day, and it would be unjust if I don't have "enough" time. But its true. The time I have now is for me to rest and study. Internet adventures is limited to only less than an hour a week [more if i'm lucky] and that fact saddens me.

To May-chan, I've never once forgotten about you or anyone I've meet at SDBC. I remember you guys, especially the members of Kooky. Expect more correspondence once I say enough money for my own computer and internet connection.

Another Day Without Tea

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Another day without tea. If you think the beginning of this entry is a bit off, then your judgement serves you right. I shan't talk about why and why and why. But rather, I would like to just type out nonsense for today. You see, there's a bug in my room. Its really happily bugging away on its little errand. Annoying. But look at the sun, its too bright and beautiful. This is another day without tea.

Another day without tea. I love the wind and the fog, but not the haze. I choke on the smoke. A rhyme, no metre. I game for kitty games, but my cat is sleeping. Catnips anybody. Yes. Again, another day without tea.

A refrain a repetition? Tea tea tea. Three. I shan't switch on the tv. Nothing in the magic box. I sense a trick. I need tea.

I'm walking on glass when it comes to my study loan. Rm 550 per semester? That won't even cover my residential college fees. And with the competition to get a place for the JPA scholarship is tough, Mady needs another alternative.Pray pray pray.

Okay so linguistics is not the flesh-eating monster course that I imagined it to be. Its fun. Plus, my brain has processed 25% on the consideration on pursuing neurolinguistics, but I have to see how the basics go first.

On the other hand, I watched Howl's Moving Castle last night with the girls. Hmm...it doesn't have that poignant ending like the one Spirited Away has [and you all know that i'm a sucker for sad, open endings or both] but this is the first time I do really enjoy a happy ending. The animation is classic Miyazaki and it infuses a lot of metaphors along the storyline. Like all movies and anime, it is best if you watch this subbed rather than dubbed. Need to add this to my all-time favs.
